It would have been greatly appreciated had there been a less-intense version of the Realm for those who want to experience new narratives without having to bash their head against a dragon-shaped wall. The quest is doable, but you’re barely given any breathing room, making it a miserable experience. War is ostensibly the only option, and unless you’re someone who has forged themselves on the hexagonal battlefield, you’re likely to have a bad time. No matter which side you align yourself with, you can expect to be swarming with enemies within 20 turns at the earliest, and every single Dragon Lord is set to the game’s Hard AI. This realm and its unique campaign are incredibly difficult to thrive in. Choosing this realm thrusts you into a world filled with six powerful Dragon Lords, split into two factions of equal sizes, and gives you the objective to either slay or ally yourself with all six. I miss the Wizard Tower.Conversely, I experienced my lowest low with the DLC when I delved into the new Realm type, The Ashen War, which is a Tier 4 realm with a unique story-based realm feature. Id not be too surprised at a shadow magic II. Also being able to cast spells (operations) everywhere it's a pretty lame choice, and since when the leader falls one can still cast those, one wonders what's the point of having a leader at all, we don't identify with it anymore, and how is he different from regular heroes (except for the fact of being an objective for the enemies). Whether itll actually be age of wonders IV or not feels a bit less certain. That is pretty much lost with Planetfall: main reason it feels so artificial and not immersive. The ancient warfare required explorations and scouting the area before moving troops. In a medieval fantasy game, mystery is everything. While that is probably in line with a Sci-Fi situation (in a medieval setting you wouldn't have radars etc.), I am afraid it could become the norm for the next installations of AOW. The strategic map feels fake, it feels like moving pieces on a cardboard tabletop wargame, since you can see pretty much everything (I loved the AOWSM watchtowers system with its visual limitations). The only thing I like about Planetfall is the combat system. One can still dream for that announcement But that's an entire new game that Triumph would have to staff. I guess what would really be cool would be AOW3 with a new history pivot (like that of the Archon Revenant "race"), and using the AOW4 engine, especially in terms of AI, stability and multiplayer (anti-cheat etc.). Also, orc scoundrels are quite easy to evolve, having a bigger health pool and victory rush to help them heal up. Most of us are Paradox stockholders, so we probably would be able to at least take a meeting to discuss options, but I'm afraid none of us would have the energy to drive it forward. Age of Wonders III is the welcome return of a long-absent strategy series and a tactically rewarding game. Orc with master Shadowborn rogue is nice, buff up group of Shocktroopers with poison mastery and magic for life steal, +1 resistance, +2 shock damage and some spirit resist. Since most of that kind of improvements could not be done via modding, we thought about pertitioning Triumph/Paradox to open source the code, or even consider taking on such consultancy work onto their own backlog. We considered hiring someone to improve and fix some irritating problems like the reoccurring CTD when you press the close button after having inspected a unit in tactical combat. We've got a little group of PBEM players who are still going strong on AOW3. Sometimes it just comes down it being to relate to dragons and poison immunity I agree about AOW4 and Planetfall not being it, although game engine-wise clearly superior.
